Humans Make Plans

Aug 19
2 min read

Many are the plans in the mind of mankind, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. Proverbs 19:21

As a young person, I had plans for my life, and “shocker!” those did not go to plan.  I often now laugh that my Plan A, which ended disastrously, caused me to develop Plan B.  But really, really, was this not all God’s Plan A for my life all along?

And guess what??? God’s plan for me has been more magnificent, more challenging, more fulfilling that I ever could have ever, ever imagined!

When I began writing, meeting with others, with Pastor and thinking, praying about creating short messages I had a lot of doubt. There was a Plan A, then a Plan B and I could not even tell you what version I am on now, but here I am. Could it be Plan OMEGA??

My friend, who is older than I, travels widely, is widowed and lives a full rich life, started an online group called “I’m still here!”  I found out that her group is one of many, “I’m still here!” groups that promote acknowledgement, social value and support to an aging but vital and contributing segment of society. Those that embrace their own true later in life Plan Bs.

God challenges us to be faithful and engaged throughout our entire lifetime. For me, as a creative, this is a new extension of the gifts God gave me, but it is a challenge.

If you’ve read every issue, you will I hope know that:

  1. All of us are lost and found at various points in our lifetimes.

  2. I hope that our lives and relationships with each other and our higher power, transforms us in ways we may never have expected.

  3. There is a difference between the earthly realm and that of God. To God we are known by name, but in this world we are often anonymous.

  4. We cannot define the Infinite by our human experience or understanding; it is at the intersection of Faith and Grace that we meet God.

  5. Prayer in any way, shape, or form is our connection with God.

  6. The choice to be alone is not always loneliness, but loneliness is a cultural epidemic.

  7. We can create community through active engagement.

  8. My plans for these writings are going to be perfectly imperfect.

  9. I hope to achieve connection and community in Lost, Found and Transformed with grace, kindness, curiosity and more.

  10. I am a life-long learner, I hope you stick with me to learn, laugh, cry and grow together, being transformed by this experience.

Questions for this week:

  1. 1When have you felt “called”, but had doubt and what did you do? (NOTE: “Called” is a God calling you for a task; it is a voice, inclination, drive toward that duty.)

  2. How many “plans” have you made, has God ever redirected your plan?

  3. When your plans have changed, how did you feel at first; and now does hindsight change your view? Do you think the changes was a God thing?

  4. Are there any things you feel challenged to try? What are they? Have you started on them, if not what’s stopping you?

Wow, Judy. I can just feel the Holy Spirit when you write. You are on such an exciting journey! You said a lot of good things, but the line that made me smile was, "Sometimes we think God is changing our plans when perhaps He is changing us." This is so very true.

One of the questions this week was, "When have you felt “called”, but had doubt and what did you do?" I thought of something that happened years ago . . . at work. Throughout my life I have prayed and asked God what I can do for Him. One time he answered, "Start a bible study." And I thought," Me???? What do I know". But t…

Thank you, Judy. We did nothing more than care. I'm so very glad that the people at Living Waters are bringing light. I know you like Scripture passages, so here's one that seems to fit.

Jesus spoke to the Pharisees again. “I am the light of the world,” he said. “Whoever follows me will have the light of life and will never walk in darkness.” John 8:12 (Don't think I knew this by heart - I looked it up! 😉)

This was a lot to unpack, so I'm going to answer the questions a little backwards. 😅

Writing this blog has honestly been one of the most challenging things I've done recently. Not because I don't love doing it—I actually love that it challenges me. But because it has required me to become vulnerable in ways I never have before.

I've shared things in these writings that I normally wouldn't share with anyone. Some of these are things I've carried quietly inside me for a very long time. Every time I sit down to write, I try to write from my heart. Some days the words come naturally, and other days I have to really dig deep and think about…
